Davis Also Raises Stout Total for Recent Period, Showing Strength in Re-Election Bid
FORT WORTH, TX – With more than 1,400 contributions since January, Senator Wendy Davis' re-election campaign continues to build momentum and overwhelming support.
"I'm grateful to have the support of so many people in the district, whether it is their time or their hard-earned dollars, for my re-election campaign to continue working on the priorities of those in Senate District 10," Davis said. "The enormous strength of the campaign inspires my resolve to continue fighting for the priorities of the district."
Senator Davis has strong support based on her fight for public education funding, her work on job retention and creation, and because she is willing to stand up and be a voice in Austin for all Texans against powerful, big-money special interests. Seventy percent of contributions to the Wendy Davis Campaign were under $250, reflecting her popular appeal and showing widespread support for her re-election efforts – unlike her opponent who relies on large donations from special interests. She has a wide range of donors including parents, teachers, police officers and firefighters, veterans, physicians and small business owners.
Senator Davis also ends the recent fundraising period with $1.1 million cash on hand – nearly four times that of her opponent.
Senator Davis has shown in her legislative work and between-session advocacy work that she is a true representative of the people in her district and she is being rewarded by an outpouring of campaign support.
Senator Davis' service in the Legislature focuses on fighting for the opportunities afforded to her. Senator Davis was once a struggling, teenaged single mom living in a mobile home. She was able to improve her life and that of her family by earning the first college degree in her family.
The opportunities that Texas provided for a young Wendy Davis — quality public education, a strong community college system, college loan and grant programs for deserving students — are what made the difference in her life. Senator Davis knows that every Texan deserves the same opportunities to do better, and she fights every day to ensure that Texas remains a state where hard work and determination are rewarded and where everybody has the chance to succeed.
